How the Holy Spirit Works in Believers’ Lives Today
In this book Dr. Lin discusses the
various aspects of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.
First, he describes how the baptism of the Spirit places the newborn
believer into the body of Christ by indwelling and bearing witness to him that
he is now God’s child. Second, he
tells how Spirit-filling “is the very power of God energizing the faculties of
our inner man enabling us to accomplish the work [sacred and secular] to which
He has called us.” Third, he
explains how fullness of the Spirit enables believer to live at the Holy
Spirit’s direction by both putting off the works of the flesh on the one hand,
and manifesting all the fruit of the Spirit, starting with love and ending with
self-control, on the other.
What
is more, Dr. Lin shows that the Sprit’s work is done in our lives by God’s
grace alone. We do have a part to
play in that we must “offer Him our trust and obedience before He will fill us
for His effective service.” Our
part, however, is by no means any sort of meritorious work but “simply
complying with His conditions to be filled with Himself.”
Finally, Dr. Lin clearly spells out just what it is that God demands of
believers who desire the Spirit’s filling and fullness and how to live so that
our lives fulfill these demands.
