How the Holy Spirit Works in Believers’ Lives Today

In this book Dr. Lin discusses the various aspects of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.  First, he describes how the baptism of the Spirit places the newborn believer into the body of Christ by indwelling and bearing witness to him that he is now God’s child.  Second, he tells how Spirit-filling “is the very power of God energizing the faculties of our inner man enabling us to accomplish the work [sacred and secular] to which He has called us.”  Third, he explains how fullness of the Spirit enables believer to live at the Holy Spirit’s direction by both putting off the works of the flesh on the one hand, and manifesting all the fruit of the Spirit, starting with love and ending with self-control, on the other.

What is more, Dr. Lin shows that the Sprit’s work is done in our lives by God’s grace alone.  We do have a part to play in that we must “offer Him our trust and obedience before He will fill us for His effective service.”  Our part, however, is by no means any sort of meritorious work but “simply complying with His conditions to be filled with Himself.”  Finally, Dr. Lin clearly spells out just what it is that God demands of believers who desire the Spirit’s filling and fullness and how to live so that our lives fulfill these demands.

Reviews

“In this delightful treatise Dr. Lin makes a powerful argument for the reality of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the lives of modern believers and the need for them to be open to what He would do in and through them.  He clearly articulates the differences among baptism, filling and fullness of the Spirit and shows how each is essential to the Christian who would enjoy a life of victory and effectiveness.”

“This book is characterized by thoroughness, clarity and simplicity.  Dr. Lin, with his language expertise, spiritual insight and many years of experience in Christian ministry, has given the Christian public a very useful tool to understand the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life.  The baptism, filling and fullness of the Holy Spirit are clearly presented.  The filling and fullness of the Holy Spirit are so necessary to accomplish the Great Commission.  May the Lord give this book a wide reading.”
